Ever Been to a Third-World Country?

So far in Module 4, you've learned how to use the testimonial hack as well as guest posting.

Now we're going to cover strategy number three, the freelance barter.

Freelance bartering has been extremely effective for me. So much so that I've never talked about this strategy publicly.

This is how it works:

  1. Target a major influencer.
  2. Audit their business to see if you can help them.
  3. Work in exchange for publicity.

Here is an example of how this looks...

Case Study: Michael Hyatt

In the summer of last year, I identified Michael Hyatt as a major influencer in my industry.

If I could get him to email his list for me, I could pick up hundreds (potentially thousands) of new email subscribers.

So, I evaluated his businesses and discovered that he was not using content upgrades. Then I evaluated his most popular blog posts and found the post referenced earlier in this course: Literary Agents Who Represent Christian Authors.

I used this video to pitch him on installing content upgrades into that blog post.

The result?

6 months later I was invited to be a regular monthly contributor to his membership site (which at the time had 5,000 paying members).

When he announced my addition to the community, I immediately picked up 200 new subscribers. And that was before I’d written my first blog post.

Each blog post in his community generates 200-300 new subscribers to my list. Over the course of the year, that is an additional 3,000 subscribers.

And it all started with me working for him.

..

In the next lesson I’m going to walk you through an example of how to implement the freelance barter in your business.
