Turn Your Recording Into an Instruction Manual
In the previous lesson, your assignment was to write out instructions that will walk me through the process of starting my car.
I wrote out two different sets of instructions.
Take a look...
Lazy instructions:
- Stick your key in the ignition and turn it.
Step-by-step instructions:
- Step to the driver's side door
- Pull out your keys and identify the correct key.
- Unlock the door with your key.
- Sit in the driver's seat.
- Put your seat belt on.
- Locate the ignition to the right of the steering wheel.
- Insert your key.
- Make sure the car is in park by looking at the gear shifter.
- Turn the key clockwise until you hear the car start.
- Once the car starts, release the key.
If a friend asked you for detailed directions on how to start their car, which direction set would you send them? #1 or #2?
Easy… #2.
It’s more detailed. It’s dummy-proof. It’s so simple you could give it to someone who has never driven and they could figure it out.
And THAT is the power of the directional framework.
Most people in your industry give lazy instructions (i.e. write fluffy. non-actionable blog posts). Even in the most competitive industries, the amount of top-notch, step-by-step instructions is extremely low.
One of the best ways to instantly stand out and attract subscribers is to become really good at diagramming out how to do the most sought-after tasks in your industry.
...
Now let’s get back to the #1 question that beginners in your industry ask.
I want you to create step-by-step instructions to answer their #1 question.
Assignment
Your assignment for this lesson is to turn the video you created two lessons ago into a logical step-by-step instructional guide. This guide will answer your industry's #1 question. To do so, follow these 4 steps:
- Open up a blank Google Doc.
- Listen to the recording of your answer (from a few lessons back).
- As you listen take notes in your Google Doc.
- Outline each step of the answer to the question. (There should be a minimum of 5 steps.)
Module Three
Duration: 15 minutes
Module Progress:
Action Items
- Read this lesson.
- Watch your recording from 2 lessons ago.
- Break your answer into easily repeatable steps.
- Continue to the next lesson.
You must complete and submit the assignment in the previous lesson before starting this lesson.
