Using In-person Meetups To Grow Your List
The majority of the strategies we’ve covered up to this point have required you to have some sort of existing following (social, family, friends etc).
This strategy does not.
There are real people in YOUR city who love your topic of choice and will be interested in knowing what you’re up to and following along your journey. The problem is that it can sometimes be hard to find these people because they may be scattered.
There are 3 primary ways you can find these people:
- Posting on Craigslist or putting a flyer up in your local coffee shops
- Joining local Facebook groups
- Meetups
In this lesson, we’re going to focus on #3 - Meetup. If you’ve never heard of Meetup, it’s a site that helps you find pockets of people interested in almost any topic.
Here’s what you’re going to do:
Step 1: Head over to meetup.com and search for groups with your topic withen 50 miles of your location
Step 2: Find at least 5 meetups and add yourself to those meetups
Step 3: Attend a meetup
Step 4: Tell people about your list (and get them to join)
While at the meetups, let people know about what you’re up to, and when you feel the time is right, as if they want to follow your journey or hear more by signing up for your email list.
Come from a place of asking others what they’re doing first. Typically in return they’ll be super interested in learning more about you and want to help if it’s a fit.
Note: Even if they don’t sign up, be sure to exchange contact info. Send them a follow up email and they’ll have another chance to join your list when they read your signature or follow you on social media since you just set those up 😉
