Why Do You Want 10,000 Subscribers?
Honest question... Why do you want 10,000 subscribers? Before you answer that question, I want you to watch this short video.
This video changed the way I approach big goals.
Here's what I used to do: I would set a big goal. Write it down. Then work a plan to try to accomplish it.
Sounds perfectly logical.
But what Simon taught me is that with BIG goals, an action plan isn't enough. You have to have a clearly defined reason why you are pursuing that goal, or you will quit.
Example...
Two years ago I read a diet book.
I got excited and started on the diet. I immediately lost weight and body fat. Within 3 months I was in the best shape of my life. Then I set a BIG goal of gaining 20 lbs of muscle. (This is extremely hard.)
With all of the confidence of my weight loss and fat reduction from the diet to fuel my enthusiasm, I started into my new goal.
But just 4 weeks in, I stalled.
I sputtered out and quit.
All of the gains I saw from losing weight disappeared, and within 6 months I was right back to where I started.
But why?
What happened?
Why every BIG goal fails and what to do about it
The reason is simple: I didn't have a clearly stated reason for reaching 200 lbs.
Honestly, it just seemed like a nice, round number.
My takeaway was simple: Every time I draw a line in the sand and establish a BIG goal, I must have a clearly articulated reason for pursuing that goal or I will quit long before I reach it.
So, here is my question to you...
Why do you want 10,000 email subscribers?
Because it's a nice, round number? If that's your reason, you are in big trouble.
However, if you have a deep-rooted answer, like one of the following, then you are in the perfect position to reach it.
"I want 10,000 subscribers because I would like to be able to sell my coaching program, and by having 10,000 subscribers I can easily reach my goal of 20 new clients @ $500 per month."
OR
"I want 10,000 subscribers because I would like to launch an app next year. By having 10,000 subscribers I could use them to help guide the development of the app and what the app does, and when it is ready to launch, I'd have an established audience to sell it to."
How to not QUIT on your way to 10,000 subscribers
18 months ago, I had exactly ZERO email subscribers.
Ten months later, my list had grown to 10,000 subscribers.
I did three things that enabled me to reach my goal:
1. Drawing a line in the sand and declaring my goal of 10,000 subscribers
2. Clearly articulating the reason I wanted 10,000 subscribers
3. Reminding myself of my goal and reason every single day
This prevented me from losing focus and getting distracted.
The KEY to building your list is one thing...extreme laser-like focus.
(I'll teach you all of the strategy. Your #1 job is to stay focused.)
Now it's your turn.
Watch the video below. Before you move to the next lesson, you will set your goal, articulate the reason for your goal and set up a system to remind yourself every day.
Assignment
The most common reason that people do not reach their goals is because they lose focus.
That WON'T happen to you.
How do I know that?
Because you're not going to let it. Today's homework prevents it from happening.
Today’s homework:
- Write down your list goal on a piece of paper and tape it to the wall.
- Clearly articulate WHY you want to get 10,000 subscribers.
- Set up a reminder in IFTTT to text you every morning at 7 am, to remind you why you are pursuing this goal.
